MEETING OF THE BALKAN COUNTRIES ON THE TOPIC OF ABANDONED ANIMALS

On the Third OIE Regional Workshop on Stray Dog Population Management for Balkan Countries (SDB3), organised by the World Organisation for Animal Health – OIE in Belgrade on 13-15 June 2018, ORCA has been invited by the OIE to present “Creating evidence-based dog population management programme at local level: Results of the first comprehensive baseline research in Bogatic municipality in Serbia”.

At this event, ORCA has presented the results of the comprehensive research related to dog population control in Municipality of Bogatic, within the project co-financed by Bogatic municipality and ORCA. Goal of this research was to collect baseline data needed for development of humane and effective evidence-based dog population control programme in the municipality of Bogatic, in line with ORCA model "FOR PEOPLE AND DOGS".

OIE Platform on Animal Welfare for Europe has identified stray dog population control as one of the priority topics in their Action Plan. Common vision of the OIE for Balkan countries related to stray dog population control is to become fully compliant with the OIE standards in this area by 2025.
